It seems some of you want us to look into the background of Marcy. You've specifically mentioned her parking ticket. We're well aware of this, as most of you apparently are as well. The question is, if you can figure out how to dig up "dirt" on Marcy, how could you not do the same for ALL of the candidates? Just because we didn't blog about this case, doesn't mean that we didn't find it. Come on, if we can find all that we have about Ms. Kinder, do you really think we didn't find this? The reason it hasn't been wrote about is because there's not much to this story, but here we are, delivering on your request for a story.
The details:
As you can see, Marcy did in fact get a ticket for overtime parking. What is overtime parking? We're happy to provide the code for you from the City website.
525.07 Overtime parking violation.
When any vehicle is parked at a parking meter/machine space in a designated metered lot, when meters/machines are in operation, upon entering the parking space, the coin or coins of the United States designated and required for the parking time desired or for the time limit established in each lot as set forth above shall be deposited in the parking meter/machine. If the vehicle shall remain parked beyond the limits prescribed or beyond the time paid for, as set forth in MMC 525.02 or 525.02A as applicable, and the parking meter/machine shall indicate illegal parking, then such vehicle shall be considered as parked overtime and beyond the legal time fixed. The parking of a vehicle overtime or beyond the period of time fixed now or hereafter by the provisions of MMC 525.02 or 525.02A as applicable, in any designated metered parking lot where a meter/machine is located, shall be a violation of this article and punished as hereinafter provided. No person shall cause, allow or permit any vehicle registered in his name to be parked overtime or beyond the lawful period of time as above described. (Ord. 3668 § 10, 2009; Ord. 3610 § 2, 2004)
The fact that this shows by being on a docket sheet is that the ticket was not paid within 20 days of receipt of the parking violation. This caused it to be filed with the magistrate. As you can see from the docket sheet, this violation was paid by Ms. Kantz and there was no further action that came of it.
You've all defended Ms. Kinder in her actions for driving unregistered vehicles, even as far as defending driving with a suspended or revoked license. Those type of violations in no way compare to a parking ticket. If you ask anyone who has a license and a vehicle, they most likely at some point have received a parking ticket. If you go one step further, you would realize that Ms. Kantz sees parking as in issue within the City. How do we know this? Her campaign addresses this as one of the key focusses. Which is something the other candidates aren't doing. Why is this a big deal? Answer this, how many businesses are downtown Meadville? Where do their employees park? Their customers? Are we losing employees or customers due to not having an effective parking solution? We could be, and this is an issue that Ms. Kantz intends to look into. This could also help aid in some revenue for the City, not from parking tickets, but by offering affordable parking solutions for Meadville residents who are employed within the City.
If you haven't looked at Marcy's platform, here is a screenshot of just some of the areas of focus.
Her website and her Facebook page, she is actively involved in monitoring, informing and responding on these. The other candidates couldn't even be bothered to create their own campaign pages, they don't answer questions or post directly. Don't believe us? Go to their campaign pages and let us know if any of their posts have a signature as to who may be writing them. They don't, plain and simple. It's arguable that they may not even be in charge of their own campaign, they're just the puppets on the strings.
So now comes the question we keep getting, what does Marcy bring to the table? Well, why the heck aren't you asking what each of these candidates can bring to the table? In case you are curious what Marcy feels makes her a good candidate, that info is right on her website. It's not basic statements of being a mom and a business owner, which both Mayoral candidates are by the way. There are other detail specific qualifications that Marcy lays out for all. One of our favorite points is that she chose different schooling solutions for each of her children, recognizing that a one size fits all approach does not work for each individual.
