We recognize that these results are unofficial, and things are still being counted but let's just shoutout to the current standings.
Starting with Jim and Nancy. Experience did matter to the voters in Meadville. Their longstanding history of serving Meadville could arguably have contributed to their success at the polls.
For votes to flip the other way here's what would be needed;
Gretchen would need another 238 votes in her favor to catchup to Nancy and potentially knock her out.
Jack would need 328 to catch her.
To catch Jim;
Gretchen would need 260, Jack 350.
This would be assuming all of the remaining outstanding votes went in their favor, which is unlikely the case. It's possible, but not necessarily probable.
Now the history making race! We have our first female Mayor. That's a big deal. The other big deal, the amount of votes a write-in candidate for Mayor received! The amount of dedication and support it takes to pull off that kind of feat alone, is worthy of attention.
So, here's the front page photo the paper went with...
Mayoral mystery? How about Mayoral History! Give credit where credit is due, that regardless of the outcome, we have the first female Mayor of Meadville. But, what do the numbers say?
Marcy leads by 207 votes. The assumption that a majority of votes would be in favor of Jaime is just that, an assumption.
We're not here to assume anything, we're here to recognize that on election day when we asked the residents to show up and make their voices heard - they did. Loud and clear!
Whether they didn't support the whole "movement" that the Vote for Meadville campaign is associated with, or whether they recognized the qualities and qualifications of Marcy as a strength to the City. Either way, the City spoke up.
As we await the final results, we want to draw attention to the comments Jaime and Gretchen made at the forum... no matter the outcome, they'll still be involved in supporting the City. (This is not an exact quote, it is a generalized summary)
We can only hope their group and their supporters show a little more maturity and willingness to work with Marcy, Jim and Nancy.
Congratulations "Karen"/"Fartsy Pantz" aka MARCY KANTZ. Regardless of what the official results state, you have proven your ability to remained focused on the task at hand, and perseverance even through an ambush of attacks and misinformation.
Call it what it is Meadville Tribune; Mayoral History, even if it's just history in the making.
