By now we've all heard what Vote for Meadville claims to be about...
They want everyone, except the local elites, to be involved in making decisions that impact our City. Did you know, this also involves the College students who live here part time? Were you aware that the college students are able to vote in our elections? Mind you, the college does not pay taxes to the City. They are part of the PILOT program. If you're unfamiliar with what this is, it's payment in lieu of taxes. You can research this on the City website. The following screenshot is directly from the VFM page, it's quoting Larry McKnight.
Keep in mind, the students are not the ones paying directly for this PILOT program. They're probably not even aware of the program or what it means. We're going to come back to the college kids here in a moment. Let's go now to the newest attack on landlords.
Intimidated by their landlords to vote a certain way. Spreading lies about us and try to mislead people. Ok, let's jump into this, shall we? See now, an article titled
This is an article that was found on a website called "The Campus". What is this website?
Jump back up now to the last paragraph in the screenshot of that article.
"impact on local voters", "phone-banking, text-banking and deep-canvassing." "Every volunteer is TRAINED on these methods". How about the part where they state "a certain list of voters".
Don't think VFM is handpicking where they canvass, who they talk to and what they say? They have a whole training program teaching folks how to do this. That issue goes deeper than just Crawford County United, that stems from Pennsylvania United.
We'll get into the 26 members they recruited to run for local office in another post. For now, back to the article.
Are you reading this?! "PEOPLE CAN BE PERSUADED". Now who's trying to intimidate voters? Let's keep this train rolling, full steam ahead.
Did you know to be part of CCU you have to pay to be a member?
Now, we have the issue of the college kids voting. Which CCU encourages. Students who live in our City for only part of the year, who do not pay taxes to our City, get to decide who sits on our Council? But locals, who are investing time and tax dollars in the City with their businesses, cannot vote in the City.
Now you're probably thinking. This isn't actually happening, the College couldn't possibly be involved in this, right?
This happened in 2019, and it's happening again now. Don't you feel it's a little odd for a candidate to offer to give rides to the polls? Who's to say what kind of conversations were happening on that bus? Would you feel comfortable getting on a bus driven by someone you were going to vote against?
The college even goes so far as to helping these students change their registration, and giving them dorm addresses to use to register to vote in local elections.
These students can't decide on President, Congress, Governor or State House. The sole purpose for them registering to vote is to take over the local elections. Now, maybe you're thinking that this stops with the VFM/CCU/PAU knocking on doors. But, does it?
Could there be a conflict of interest? Engaging in politics with students?
Maybe the better question is why are College students, who live here part time and pay no taxes, able to vote in our elections? Why is CCU targeting lists of voters who they state "can be persuaded"? Who's really doing the intimidating and persuading here? Who's really trying to spread lies and mislead people?
The final point to drive home, who the heck is funding Vote for Meadville/Crawford County United/PA United?
Remember, they're member based right? CCU is part of PAU...
They won't take money from corporate PAC's, but they will from federal ones based out of Northampton, MA? These campaigns aren't locally funded, and the local support they seem to drum up is from persuasive politics, and selective campaigning. Who's really the liar here?
If they'll lie and mislead on this, what else are they lying about and misleading us on?
Are you saying that folks who don't pay taxes shouldn't be allowed to vote. What about disabled people who get SSI and don't pay taxes. Also, are you saying people who go to college shouldn't be allowed to vote? If they can't vote here where they live 9 months of the year should they really vote at their parents' house where they live maybe 3 months and have a lot less community involvement?
